Captain Janeway Project

As a fiscally sponsored project of Artisan Alley, The Captain Janeway Bloomington Collective has installed a celebratory memorial to Captain Kathryn Janeway, the Star Trek: Voyager character, and highlighted her connection to Bloomington, IN, her future birthplace.

The Captain Janeway Bloomington Collective was formed in early 2019 with the goal of seeing the city of Bloomington, IN honor Star Trek: Voyager’s Captain Kathryn Janeway, who will be “born” there May 20, 2336.

Our objective was to establish a public art display as a monument to Captain Janeway, with a target installation date of May 20, 2020. As part of this installation, the Janeway Collective is planning a commemoration event to celebrate the character and her future birthplace, with activities highlighting Janeway’s strong leadership, and the science and technology from the Star Trek universe, and how they impact us today. She was installed October 4th by Cyclops Studios, the Project Director and General Contractor, and it was unveiled to the public October 24th

Captain Janeway showed humanity, integrity, and determination in the face of repeated challenges to her principles. She represents ideals that the citizens of Bloomington and Monroe County aspire toward and qualities we look for in our leaders. Captain Janeway should be honored in her hometown, and the Captain Janeway Bloomington Collective is here to make it so.
