Our Volunteer Department aspires to help volunteers find opportunities that excite and inspire them. Below you will find a sampling of volunteer opportunities that the Artisan Alley has to offer. Many opportunities can be customized to suit your skills and schedule, so if you do not see anything that peaks your interest, please feel free to reach out and let us know how you would like to volunteer for the Artisan Alley. All volunteers receive on-site training and orientation. Some positions require and receive additional formal training. Volunteers are not required, but are encouraged to become members of the Artisan Alley so that they can become familiar with the many offerings.

 VOLUNTEER INFORMATION CENTER (FOR CURRENT VOLUNTEERS)

Volunteers at the Artisan Alley have access to view and manage their own schedules, sign-up for open opportunities, report additional hours as needed, print schedules, update personal information, and receive news and messages from the volunteer office. The Volunteer Information Center is the one place you can go to see all the new volunteer opportunities that are available at the Museum without leaving your home.

VOLUNTEER AGREEMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS

 

VOLUNTEER APPLICATION PROCESS (FOR NEW VOLUNTEERS)

  1. Complete the Volunteer Application.
  2. Once we have received and accepted your application, our Volunteer Services staff will contact you by email with individual or group interview dates.
  3. Once you have completed an individual or group interview and have been selected to join the Artisan Alley Volunteer Team, Volunteer Services staff will give you the dates of upcoming Orientation Sessions. All volunteers receive a copy of our Artisan Alley Volunteer Handbook, a badge, a pair of safety glasses, a volunteer shirt, and a tour of the facilities. If you are interested in working as a departmental volunteer, that position may require additional training post-orientation.

Prospective volunteers must be 18 years of age.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTIONS

NEW: Ambassador
Volunteer Ambassadors serve as roving informational guides and offer a friendly and enthusiastic greeting to visitors. They provide information, give directions, answer general questions about artists, classes and special exhibitions, and convey news of daily activities, services, and programs to visitors. Clear and friendly communication skills are a requirement. Ambassadors must acquire a thorough knowledge of the Museum in order to answer guests’ inquiries, and internet-search skills are useful.

Special Events and Programs
Work with the Artisan Alley staff during events such as exhibition openings, Community Market, Gallery Events and Musical Shows as well as off-site events and festivalsy. These volunteers provide a warm welcome to visitors, give directions, answer questions about the grounds, hand out bags, and assist with coat check responsibilities. If you prefer to work behind-the-scenes, special projects include assembling mailings, filing projects and more.

Dimensions Gallery
The cozy 300 sqft is a great venue for intimate must-see events such as local group and solo shows, lectures and speakers from the worlds of art, architecture, design, and other creative fields.

MADE Store
Opportunities in the store cover all areas of retail sales and merchandising. Volunteers will assist store employees by working the register, restocking items, taking phone orders, and answering guests’ questions about directions and the Studios. Strong communication skills are preferred, and volunteers must acquire a thorough knowledge of the Store’s stock.

Development / Membership
The Artisan Alley is seeking proactive, engaging, and energetic volunteers to work with Artisan Alley Development staff to promote Membership. Opportunities range from a regularly scheduled position during after school hours (evenings and weekends available) to Artisan Alley events such as The Bloomington Community Market. Volunteers will assist with fundraising and membership activities with duties such as organizing events and supporting Artisan Alley staff with planning and executing activities. There is also an opportunity to join a street team to interact with our community. Feeling comfortable speaking in front of groups and with other businesses is essential. Training sessions are available and will be required for this position.

Activity Space Volunteers
The Activity Space was created to give visitors an opportunity to create their own works of art and do activities that will enhance their experiences in the galleries. Activity Space Volunteers are responsible for maintaining the space, ensuring that art supplies are well stocked and available for public use. Volunteers will also offer a friendly greeting to visitors, making sure that the public understands the activities that are available in the space. Volunteers will be available to answer general inquiries about the grounds.
